Class of 2017.

Photo Apr 29, 6 13 29 PM.jpgWe are coming up on graduation season! A great time for students and photographers alike. I have several friends graduating college this spring and I look forward to celebrating their many accomplishments. It can be such a strange transitional time but also one filled with potential and new beginnings. I remember being so nervous for what the future will bring but here we are a year later and I am surviving adulthood just fine. (How an entire year has passed is beyond me…) Happy early graduation Class of 2017, welcome to the next chapter of your life!

Now booking senior portrait sessions! Contact info is in the drop down menu and also on my Instagram.

Attended my first Alumni Weekend at UCSB this weekend (woo! getting old!) and got the opportunity to reunite with so many dear friends. For a short while, we were back in the Narnia that is Isla Vista where the responsibilities were minimal and the fun times were anything but that. It felt odd and amazing all at once; our happy place filled with unreal memories but also no longer ours. As always, however, there was dancing, drinking and losing sleep – guess some things really never change! Forever grateful for our Gaucho name that bonds us for life.

I wouldn’t dare see my best friends and let them go without capturing some shots of their natural beauty first ❤ Many more shots on my Instagram! @dianaelenaphotos

Coachella 2017.

Coachella 2017.

Processed with VSCO with c5 presetWell someway somehow we survived another weekend in the desert at Coachella. Honestly, with 100 degree temps it seemed unlikely at times… Anyone who knows me knows I am not a big nature gal; try as I might I just can’t let go of the comforts of home. But we managed to be very prepared and even look cute for pictures so that deserves a round of applause if you ask me. My favorite performances were: Lorde, DJ Snake, Future, Porter Robinson and the xx to name a few. I’ve basically been listening to Lorde’s song Greenlight on repeat for the past week so there’s that.

Some tips for future Coachella goers as my 2nd time around was much more successful than the first:

  1. Bring a sturdy canopy/tarps AND weigh them down/put them down when away. That desert wind is unlike anything I’ve ever seen and we watched firsthand the damage it did.
  2. Arrive as early as possible! We got there Thursday instead of Friday this year and it made a HUGE difference. We got one of the best spots in the whole place and that made the extra day off worth it.
  3. Those fans that have the water spritzers? LIFE SAVING. Buy 10 of them and  thank me later.
  4. Portable phone batteries, bring them all. You don’t wanna camp out by a charging station in that weather, trust me!
  5. Watch alcohol consumption. At the risk of sounding like a mom, it’s so easy to over do it since you’re dehydrated and exhausted by default. I enjoyed the weekend completely sober and had an amazing time! Not saying that’s the way to do it but be careful ❤

Safe to say that this will probably be my last festival for a while but I’m glad I got to share with people I love 🙂

Friday Feature: MUA Alice.

This week’s feature is a familiar face on the Diana Elena Photos radar! Just wanted to spotlight Alice as the fantastic makeup artist that she is. A lot goes into making beautiful pictures a reality and a good makeup artist is one of those key elements. Years of practice have made her very talented at her craft and I always know who to call when I need to feel like Beyonce (which is a daily mood honestly). From bridal to photo shoots to daily glam, she’s done it all!

Her work can be found on her Instagram and her blog, Glitter and Whatever! Anyone that has met her will vouch that she’s bound to leave an impression.

Exploring Midtown.

Photo Mar 25, 3 22 40 PM.jpgI recently took over Explore Midtown’s Instagram for a weekend and it rekindled my passion for capturing Sacramento’s uniqueness. It made me so very happy to show my friends from Southern California some of the great things our state’s capitol has to offer. Here I captured them with yet another beautiful home near Temple Coffee in Midtown; post coffee and mellow strolls in the sunshine – the image of pure bliss. I always have an eye out when I’m walking  around in search for my dream home…

Sneak Peak: PURPOSE

PURPOSE_cityscoutmagazine_img4.jpg

Just a little look inside of a project I recently worked on with City Scout Magazine! Blogger Libier Reynolds and PURPOSE shop owner Rachel Dee Minyard looking so fabulous it just had to be shared. I am very excited to be getting back into writing and looking forward to what my collaboration with City Scout will bring. You can read the entire piece here!

Local blooms.

How stunning are these two?! I stayed up way past my bedtime editing these pictures because I could not get enough of them! Who knew such magic could take place in a random patch of grass in West Sac. Local florist Sammy of Bloomonade was kind enough to prepare some beautiful flowers for our shoot and they were the perfect touch. As it is becoming apparent, bohemian/feminine aesthetics are my go-to and there’s nothing like a fresh flower crown to complete that vibe.

I love working together to grow and BLOOM as a community (hehe see what I did there…) For any and all of your floral needs, Sammy is your gal! 🙂

This hat has got the right idea! It’s 5 o’clock which means the weekend is upon us yet again. Looking forward to a weekend of both unwinding and continuing some birthday celebrations (because it should always be a week long celebration, in my opinion). Forecast also says 75 degrees and sunny, guess the time has come to start working on that summer tan… #TGIF

As someone who is very vocal about my hometown pride, it makes sense that Heart would get a feature, being one of the trendiest local boutiques here in Sacramento. I love shopping of all kinds but I definitely feel a lot better when I help support a local business. This is a shot from when I was fortunate enough to work with them for their festival fashion feature. If you’re still needing the finishing touches for your Coachella outfit or just something for date night, go check them out!
